This was the series where I managed to go from 20-30 minutes per model to 2-5 minutes. Using a negative midlevel on the displace modifier preserves detail but adds Chonk to the models. This took away most of the time I was using to bulk up capes and to clip off other fine bits and bops on models. I also had updated my script to include the shaded versions to get a quick shot of the models before I sculpted them – sometimes these shaded versions don’t match the final result 100% but it’s neat and adds something I find I always want when painting miniatures – a colour palette to copy from!
As of writing this I’ve completed 84 models (slowing down over the holidays a bit) and I have a backlog of 1000+ models to process through the API. Right now I’m working on animals and objects image generation. Rodin has released version 1.5 as of the end of 2024 which improved geometry a little. I’m mostly excited about all the models I have and further reducing generation time with the combination of scripts to take screenshots, optimize models and to place platforms – this will allow me to stick to about 2-5 minutes but to focus on improving my sculpting (also leveraging asset libraries for eyes, hands etc… instead of trying to fix messy models).
One thing you may notice with these models (and more to come) is that they don’t have held items. I’m leaning towards this format more and more. It’s very easy to add a weapon or shield later but really hard to clean up a bad one.
In the full list we have
hippofolk / giff artficers x 4
hippofolk / giff rogue x 3
hippofolk / giff cleric x 2
hippofolk / giff druid x 2
hippofolk / giff barbarian x 1
hippofolk / giff fighter x 2
hippofolk / giff monk x 2
hippofolk / giff paladin x 1
hippofolk / giff sorceror x 1
hippofolk / giff warlock x 2
hippofolk / giff wizard x 1
One mistake (of the many that I make) is that the “chonkification” method I’m using increased height on some of these a tiny bit so instead of 32mm some are 33/34. This is reduced somewhat with platforms as they’re sunk into them a tiny bit (and maybe a problem with my prior models). I would go back to fix these but I think hippofolk / giff can be a tiny bit taller.
Last note – chonking models up with a -5 midlevel seems to turn them into PERFECT board game pieces.
