I saw a post that these were on of the most popular DND races to play and so I decided to make a bunch of them (although there are always more). I really started crunching the z-axis for these ones to allow them to fill out the baseplate quite a bit better. I was also adding a lot more of a brow around the eyes. Due to the z-axis crunching many of these might appear distorted or borderline might not have a mouth (looking at you minotaur paladin #1). Symmetry is another challenge – I’ve finally started using the mirror modifier on the eye balls I pull in from the asset library. Speaking of the asset library I really added a LOT of weapons and some shields to these characters.
For finishing the models I was aiming for lower filesizes and was aiming at 300k faces. With the Remesh modifier I started playing with the “adaptivity” setting which drastically lowers the size while trying to retain some quality. I tend to land around 0.003mm voxel size but maybe I should look at going lower and even higher adaptivity, trading processing in exchange for higher quality end results.
As for print quality – on FDM these are a bit of mixed bag. While I really like the weapons they tend to be pretty darn small – even trying to keep them at a minimum 1mm they can still be warped. Supports are also a challenge so I may have to continue to CRUNCH models or look at other ways to fill gaps.
Anyways – here is the link to the printables collection.

As of writing this I’m almost at 170 completed models. I have a lots of 1-off ones growing that I haven’t published yet and the practices I used are getting a bit dated so I may have to REDO them.
